Our Story
Once the breadbasket of modern civilization, Egypt has a plethora of beautiful produce.
However, when Sara-Kristina Hannig Nour moved to Egypt in 2010; she found it hard to know whether the food available in
the market was healthy and free of harmful pesticides and chemicals. ‘Growing up in Switzerland, I made informed choices about the food that I eat, and I wanted to have that same transparency here in Egypt.’
In 2011, following the revolution, Sara decided to start implementing organic agriculture on an unused piece of land that belonged to her husband’s family. Over the next few years, Sara and her team of farmers and engineers patiently built up the soil and planted orchards of mangoes, grapes, pomegranates, peaches, plums, olives, and a wide range of vegetables and herbs. What started as selling a few kilos of pesticide-free cucumbers at the local farmers market in Zamalek has evolved into an award-winning organic food company.
Today Sara’s Organic Food delivers to customers, retailers, and the best hotels across Egypt. With the bold ambition of making clean and nutritious food accessible to all, the company sources both from its 972-acre farm and from small farmers across the country that follow the company’s guidelines for responsible and sustainable growth. The company sells under its two brands, Sara’s Organic Food which is certified organic by the European Council for Organic Agriculture as well as Lara’s Premium Produce which is Global G.A.P. and G.R.A.S.P. certified, grown using low input, regenerative farming methods.
The company’s flagship product is the weekly Golden Box, delivered directly to customers’ homes. Inspired by the CSA model in the United States or the AMAP model in Europe, customers who sign up receive a selection of fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs that vary along with the seasons. This Box is specially curated by our team and accompanied by recipes and tips to guide people on how to use seasonal produce. As the first farm-to-table delivery service in Egypt, Sara’s Organic Food is a pioneer in the local food movement by reconnecting people to their food and where it comes from.
Above all, Sara’s Organic Food is the hub for good food in Egypt and a community where like-minded individuals can connect over their passion for sustainable, healthy, and happy living. In this spirit, Sara’s Organic Food regularly invites its customers to come to its flagship farm to participate in a variety of unique events that range from open day picnics and chef’s tables to seasonal harvests and wellness retreats. Its team of dedicated staff members includes people from all walks of life united by a shared passion for local, sustainable and healthy food.

Philosophy
We believe that growing food sustainably and using organic methods have benefits for our health, the welfare of animals, and the state of our environment. We protect what we cherish – the soil that we live from and the biodiversity of our environment, the people we work with, and ultimately, the people who consume our produce. To produce food that is safe and clean is a privilege to us. We want to re-establish a connection between the people and the farmers that grow their food, and we believe that knowing your food source and having access to nutritionally dense, healthy food is essential.
